Intent
At Boynton we aim to provide a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum ensuring all pupils have access to inspiring and meaningful teaching, which helps them enquire and develop knowledge. We aim to support children by developing their ability to excel in a wide range of physical activities, by engaging in competitive sports and leading active lives. Boynton aims to improve the skills and capabilities necessary for physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing in our children, both now and in the future. We see that physical education is an important part of leading a healthier lifestyle as it teaches self-discipline and that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience and have the determination to believe that anything can be achieved. Our intention is to teach children life skills that will positively impact their future and encourage them to succeed in physical activities; to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of a team and develop understanding of fair play.
Implementation
In ensuring high standards of teaching, we aim to develop pupils who aspire to independently learn and develop. Physical education is taught over a two year cycle and children at Boynton participate in weekly lessons and sporting activities. These lessons provide pupils with opportunities to work at their own level of development and incorporate a range of sports to ensure they have fun and experience success in sport, whilst developing confidence and tolerance. There are also further opportunities for children to compete in extra-curricular events with their peers within a safe and encouraging environment.
